Applauding our apprentices at Graduation Day

By Melanie Jackson, Head of QATS, Apprentice Training Projects

On 6 September, we were delighted to host this year’s apprentice graduation ceremony at the QinetiQ Apprentice Training School, MOD Boscombe Down. Twenty-nine of our apprentices marked the end of their four-year course, received their graduation awards, and became qualified in a variety of engineering fields. The School, established 44 years ago, trains students to achieve an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering to support delivery of the Long Term Partnering Agreement (LTPA).

About half of this year’s graduating apprentices will stay here at MOD Boscombe Down in a wide range of jobs, including aircraft maintenance, flight trials and airworthiness. The rest will be based at a number of our other sites and QinetiQ managed MOD ranges around the UK.

The awards were presented by Olympic gold medallist rower, Anna Watkins MBE, who gave a very motivational speech.  Local MP, John Glen, commented: “QinetiQ can be proud of its apprenticeship schemes and the contribution to help make a positive difference to the next generation in the science, technology and engineering community of this country.”

Each graduate received a trophy, as well as their deeds and certificates. Additionally, a CEO award and four best apprentices in each pathway awards were presented. John Anderson, Director of Weapons Division at QinetiQ, who presented the CEO Award, said: “I am delighted that we have trained another set of young people to be the best and the brightest in their field and that we are able to celebrate their achievements at today’s ceremony.”

At QinetiQ we rely entirely on the expertise and skills of our people, and our apprentices are a vital part of this. I join with all the staff at the School in wishing our apprentice graduates the very best in their future careers.
